The Dispute on Art. Artists from Funen
The exhibition presents about 50 paintings by the three Danish artists Fritz Syberg (1862-1939), Johannes Larsen (1867-1961) and Peter Hansen (1868-1928) from the collections of Ordrupgaard and Faaborg Museum.
With their tribute to motifs from everyday life, obvious talent and joyful colours, the artists from Funen became popular in the beginning of the 20th Century, and they held a strong position within the contemporary world of art. However, their Naturalistic approach provoked the circle of Danish Symbolist painters and the artists from Funen became the centre of an art political dispute in 1907.
Ordrupgaard and Faaborg Museum have established a partnership telling the story of the two art collectors Wilhelm Hansen and Mads Rasmussen, whose collections of the artists from Funen were established during this dispute.
